The payment method is not the regulation. What to compare instead.
“Crypto casino” describes the payment method, not the regulation. What matters most is the licence, the terms and the operator’s conduct. A casino that takes crypto can be licensed in one jurisdiction, in another, or in none, and a traditional casino can also be badly run.
| Factor | What to check |
|---|---|
| Licensing | Check the regulator and the licence number on the regulator’s own register. The UK Gambling Commission publishes one (public register). |
| Payments | Crypto requires matching the coin and network exactly; card and bank payments have different dispute routes. Check the casino’s terms. |
| Identity checks | Both are subject to anti-money-laundering rules where the operator is regulated. Details below. |
| Player protections | Depend on the licence and the country, not on the payment method. Limits and self-exclusion tools should be offered by licensed operators. |
Identity checks. The FATF standard sets customer due diligence for casinos, including internet casinos, at transactions of USD/EUR 3,000 or more (FATF). The EU’s AMLR sets EUR 2,000 for gambling providers from 10 July 2027 (Bird & Bird; Deloitte). An operator’s own limits can be lower. In Great Britain licence condition 17 stops operators demanding extra identity information at withdrawal if they could reasonably have asked earlier (UK Gambling Commission).
Speed depends on the operator’s own review, the payment method and the network, so we do not rank by speed. In Great Britain, reverse withdrawals (letting a player cancel a pending withdrawal) are prohibited for remote operators (UK Gambling Commission). See what “instant withdrawal” really means.
Check the licence first. See how to check a casino licence. The house edge applies whatever you pay with (Wikipedia; TheGameHaus).
Set limits first. Use deposit and loss limits in your account settings, and check that online gambling is legal where you live. If gambling is causing you harm, BeGambleAware and GamCare offer free, confidential support.
Some are, under various licences, and some are not. Check the regulator and the licence number on the regulator's register.
Regulated operators are subject to anti-money-laundering rules and may ask for identity documents. FATF sets the global threshold at USD/EUR 3,000 and the EU AMLR at EUR 2,000 from 10 July 2027.
It depends on the operator's review, payment method and network. We do not rank casinos by speed.
