Sweden's gambling regulator, Spelinspektionen, has ordered Immortal Snail LLC, the company behind Duel.com, to stop offering gambling in Sweden. It says the site kept targeting Swedish players without a Swedish licence.
Spelinspektionen, the Swedish Gambling Authority, has banned Immortal Snail LLC, the operating company of Duel.com, from offering gambling in Sweden. The order took effect immediately (iGamingToday; SCCG Management). Neither report we could open mentions a fine.
Under Swedish law, online gambling counts as offered in Sweden when it is directed at the Swedish market. The regulator found that Swedish-language options, Swedish krona payment settings and Swedish-language marketing were still available, and that nothing stopped Swedish consumers from registering. A follow-up check found that a promised IP block had not been put in place (iGamingToday; SCCG Management).
According to iGamingToday, the operator argued that Swedish is an international language, that it could not control which currency players choose, and that it would not remove the Swedish option. SCCG reports that the operator rejected the order.
A site that works in Swedish, takes kronor and markets to Swedes is treated as targeting Sweden, and without a Swedish licence it is illegal there. Sweden’s own licence register is the place to check. If you are in Sweden, see our Sweden guide and how to check a casino licence.
📌 In our view: the case shows that being offshore is not enough. Language, currency and marketing all count as targeting. This is information about a regulator’s decision, not a statement about the operator beyond what the reports say.
