🇧🇷 Brazil: the licences are gone and the vote is over

Brazil: all federal betting licences expired on 25 October, Lula won the runoff with 51.79 percent

Every federal betting licence in Brazil expired on 25 October under Provisional Measure 1.394, which bans operating, brokering and advertising fixed-odds betting, online casino included. The presidential runoff is decided too: Lula won with 51.79% of valid votes against 48.21% for Flávio Bolsonaro. The Supreme Court judge handling the cases had not ruled by election day.

📌 What it means for players: There is no licensed betting in Brazil today. A return would need a vote in Congress or a court order and then a new licensing process, so a site that still takes bets from Brazil is doing so without a Brazilian licence. Read the full story.

🇨🇦 Alberta: the grey-market grace period is over

Alberta: regulated market opened 13 July, grace period for unlicensed operators ended 13 October

Alberta opened its regulated iGaming market on 13 July, and the transition period for unregulated operators ended on 13 October. Operators that did not finish approval must stop taking wagers from people in Alberta. Outlets count between 48 and 51 approved sites, so the regulator’s own list is the one to trust.

📌 What it means for players: If you play from Alberta, check the regulator’s list before you deposit. A site that is not on it should not be taking your bets, even if it did a week ago. Read the full story.

🌍 Regulators plan a week to warn players about unlicensed sites

IAGR Illegal Gambling Awareness Week, 9 to 13 November, with the CheckBeforeYouPlay.org tool launching on 9 November

The International Association of Gaming Regulators will run its first Illegal Gambling Awareness Week from 9 to 13 November. A free tool, CheckBeforeYouPlay.org, launches on 9 November: you enter a site’s address and see whether it is authorised in the jurisdictions of the regulators taking part. Reports do not say which regulators those are.

📌 What it means for players: Try the tool on launch day, but treat a result as one input, not a verdict, until the list of participating regulators is public. Read the full story.

🇺🇸 United States: the Trump family’s crypto business, in numbers

Trump 2025 disclosure: reported crypto-related income from 580 million to 1.4 billion dollars, GENIUS Act from 18 January 2027

World Liberty Financial, a crypto company linked to the Trump family, issues the USD1 stablecoin, and on 14 August the OCC gave preliminary conditional approval to a trust bank application from one of its units. Outlets put the crypto-related income in Trump’s 2025 disclosure anywhere from more than $580 million to at least $1.4 billion. The GENIUS Act, the US stablecoin law, takes effect on 18 January 2027.

📌 What it means for players: US stablecoin rules are still being written. If you pay casinos in stablecoins, know which one you hold and who issues it. Critics say the law does not stop the President profiting; the White House rejects that. Read the full story.

▶️ YouTube opens its Masthead ads to gambling

YouTube Masthead ads open to certified online gambling advertisers from 21 October, limited by country and licence

From 21 October, certified online gambling advertisers can buy YouTube’s Masthead placement, which already accepted sports betting. Approval depends on the country, the gambling product and local licensing. Google’s wording excludes promoters that are not subject to mandatory gambling registration, which appears to rule out affiliates and comparison sites.

📌 What it means for players: A casino ad in that slot tells you the advertiser passed Google’s certification. It does not tell you the site suits you, so check the licence number and operator name yourself. Read the full story.

Dates Ahead

9–13 Nov IAGR awareness week; CheckBeforeYouPlay.org opens · 1 Dec New Zealand: unlicensed operators must stop · 18 Jan 2027 US GENIUS Act takes effect · Apr 2027 Spain: transition for existing accounts ends. Sources for every date are in the iGaming Regulation Calendar.
