The Trump family has become one of the most visible names in crypto, through a stablecoin, a meme coin, a listed bitcoin company and a media company with a bitcoin treasury. We collected the dated facts that two or more sources support, and we show where the reported figures disagree.
Each date on the timeline comes from a company announcement, an agency record or at least two press reports. We do not rank the ventures and we do not take a side on politics. This page is a record of what was reported and when.
WLF launched in September 2024 and sells a governance token, WLFI, and the dollar-pegged stablecoin USD1 (CoinMarketCap Academy). On 1 May 2025 WLF announced that the Abu Dhabi investor MGX would use USD1 to fund a $2 billion investment in Binance. Senators Elizabeth Warren and Jeff Merkley then wrote to a WLF co-founder asking for documents and called the arrangement “a staggering vehicle for corruption” (Sen. Merkley’s office). A second letter, from Warren, Chris Van Hollen and Ron Wyden to the OCC on 1 August 2025, asked how the regulator would keep the President’s financial interests out of its decisions (Cointelegraph). Neither report includes a response from WLF or the White House.
In January 2026 a WLF subsidiary, WLTC Holdings, applied for a national trust bank charter to issue and hold USD1 (Business Wire). On 14 August 2026 the OCC gave preliminary conditional approval to World Liberty Trust Company, a limited-purpose trust bank in Florida. It cannot take insured deposits or make loans, and it must meet conditions first, including at least $20 million in capital (Crowdfund Insider; Outlook Money). The approval can be changed or withdrawn.
The annual filing, released on 30 June 2026, is the main source for income figures, but outlets read it differently. CNBC headlines more than $580 million, Crypto Briefing reports over $1.2 billion, Fox Business says more than $1 billion and Bloomberg reports at least $1.4 billion. Fox Business adds that more than $500 million came from WLF sales and that the filing lists $635 million in royalties from “Celebration Coins”, which Bloomberg ties to CIC Digital LLC, the company behind the $TRUMP meme coin. The differences may come from what each outlet counts, and we have not tried to settle them. Fox Business also notes that it is unclear whether the figures are profit or gross revenue. A White House spokesperson says neither the President nor his family has engaged or will engage in conflicts of interest.
| Outlet | Reported crypto income (2025) |
|---|---|
| CNBC | More than $580 million |
| Fox Business | More than $1 billion |
| Crypto Briefing | Over $1.2 billion |
| Bloomberg | At least $1.4 billion |
Trump Media & Technology Group closed a private placement on 30 May 2025 that raised about $2.44 billion gross and about $2.32 billion net, from 55.8 million shares and $1 billion of convertible notes. The company said it would use the proceeds to set up a bitcoin treasury (The Block; Bitcoin Magazine). American Bitcoin listed on Nasdaq in September 2025 through a merger with Gryphon Digital Mining. Hut 8 holds a majority stake, and Eric Trump is a co-founder and chief strategy officer. It passed 7,000 BTC on 29 March 2026, while its shares traded roughly 80 to 90 percent below their post-listing highs (Bitcoin.com News). Later reports put its holdings above 8,000 BTC (CoinMarketCap Academy, citing the Wall Street Journal).
A class action, Hurlock v. Kelsier Ventures, alleges that the $MELANIA token was used to borrow credibility in a “coordinated liquidity trap” run by the defendants, who include Meteora, Benjamin Chow and Kelsier Ventures. The plaintiffs do not accuse Melania Trump of wrongdoing. They describe her as “merely the window dressing” (The Block; Decrypt). The allegations are unproven claims in a lawsuit. For the current status, check the court docket.
The GENIUS Act (Public Law 119-27) set up the first US federal framework for payment stablecoins. It was signed on 18 July 2025. Regulators had until 18 July 2026 to write final rules and, according to one analysis, had proposed some rules but finalised none, so the law takes effect on 18 January 2027, the 18-month date (Tazapay; Morgan Lewis). Democratic senators argue it does not prevent the President from profiting from stablecoins (Cointelegraph).
For people who deposit with crypto, the practical point is the stablecoin rules, not the names. From January 2027, US-regulated payment stablecoins will have to follow reserve and redemption rules. The Act covers issuers, not gambling operators, and it does not make any casino safe. We have not verified which casinos, if any, accept USD1, and we do not promote any token. Check an operator’s licence on the regulator’s own register and read our guide to checking a casino licence before you deposit.
In our view: the dated facts are well supported, while the income totals and the conflict-of-interest questions are disputed. We will update this page when the OCC, the courts or the final GENIUS rules change the picture. This is not investment or legal advice.
